Chreece, the independent hip-hop festival, returns to Fountain Square on August 24 with national acts Curren$y and Dem Franchize Boyz headlining.
Curren$y got his start on Master P’s No Limit Records and Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment labels, where he has worked with industry icons Wiz Khalifa and Freddie Gibbs. Dem Franchize Boyz formed in Atlanta, where they pioneered the snap music movement with hits like “Lean wit It, Rock wit It” and “White Tee.”

They will be joined by over 50 other artists, including Kittii Red, Luke Mara, Mr. Kinetik, and The Brothers Footman at seven venues throughout Fountain Square, including Fountain Square Plaza, White Rabbit Cabaret and Square Cat Vinyl. The festival kicks off at noon, with ticket prices ranging from $35 to $90.
The first Chreece festival was held in 2015, founded by local hip-hop artist Oreo Jones. This year, Chreece has partnered with GANGGANG, an cultural institution working to amplify Black and minority artists in Indianapolis and the Midwest.
“It has been a beautiful process watching the growth and evolution of Chreece,” Jones said in a press release. “When we started the festival in 2015, I never would have imagined the impact it would have on Indianapolis. As this year continues, we vow to honor the legacy and history of hip-hop culture in Indianapolis, and it’s crucial to protect and nurture the artform.”
To honor the late Ron Miner — better known as DJ Indiana Jones — who died in 2020, Chreece and the Vinyl Destination DJ Battle League will host the first DJ Indiana Jones Memorial Battle Royale from 6-10 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Tube Factory Artspace. Sixteen local DJs will compete for the top spot, with proceeds going toward The DJ Indiana Jones Scholarship, which supports young artists. The suggested donation is $20.
