Indiana’s high school graduation requirements are changing, and Indianapolis Public Schools wants to help its families plan for what comes next.
In December, state officials adopted new high school graduation requirements that do away with the current Core 40 Diplomas. In its place, officials introduced a new slate of diplomas intended to promote more exposure to college and job experience while in high school.
The changes will take effect statewide in the 2028-29 school year, though schools may choose to adopt the new graduation requirements earlier. The class of 2029 — or this year’s current class of eighth graders — will be the first statewide to complete the new requirements.
IPS’ Postsecondary Readiness Department will have a virtual meeting 6:30-7:15 p.m. April 21 breaking down the changes. The event is open to the families of all seventh and eighth grade students at IPS.
Moderators will explain the new requirements and how it will affect high school course selection. They’ll also take questions from parents. A virtual meeting link and passcode can be found on the IPS website.
