The Black Church Coalition, an Indianapolis-based grassroots organization of Black faith leaders, announced on Monday, March 25, it would join the national group Live Free USA.

Founded in 2011, Live Free USA is dedicated to ending gun violence and the mass incarceration and criminalization of Black and Latino communities. The organization trains, launches and incubates local groups dedicated to shaping state and federal policies, and it advocates for increased funding for community violence intervention strategies.

Leaders of the Black Church Coalition said the partnership will help support their continued growth and advocacy in Indianapolis and beyond. For the last 2 1/2 years, the Black Church Coalition has been housed within Faith in Indiana, a nonprofit community advocacy organization.

“As we have grown, we believe it is time to step out on our own and partner with dynamic organizations that will help us expand our power,” LaNette Boone, central committee member of the Black Church Coalition, said in a statement.

The partnership will kick off at the Safe and Health Communities Summit at 6:30 p.m. April 4 at the Light of the World Christian Church at 4646 N. Michigan Road.
