For the third episode of REVERB, I sat down with Dāyshe Mansfield, a vocalist, actor, photographer and loctician. We talked about how music intersects with her other creative endeavors.
āAt the core, Iāve always loved making people feel something,ā she said. āI think all of those things allow me to make a person feel good in their own right and whatever they need in that moment.ā
REVERB, which kicked off in 2025, features interviews with Black artists in Indiana and across the Midwest and blends original performances with reinterpretations of Black music legends. Itās presented in partnership with I Made Rock N Roll, a GANGGANG initiative.
Mansfield talked about her experiences of twisting dreadlocks and directing photography sessions ā and how she sets the mood for clients to feel good about themselves. It gives her a great feeling to know the person she interacted with was better off after their session.
She is new to the rock ānā roll genre, but a good friend encouraged her to express herself this way. She said her approach to rock isnāt different from her other creative tracks.
āIt did feel more fun. I didnāt have to sit with it for days and days and come back to it,ā she said. āI was able to have fun and not think too much about it. The outcome felt better than the process with R&B music. It felt like I should be doing this.ā
Stay tuned for the next REVERB interviews by Mirror Indy arts & culture reporter Mesgana Waiss.
