Fountain Square’s annual Art Squared art market, competition and block party is set to return on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Jeff Nordyke, the Fountain Fletcher District Association’s district manager and a member of Art Squared’s planning committee, said he still remembers attending the festival for the first time in 2017.
“I spent way too much money on art, but couldn’t resist supporting so many local artists sharing their passion,” said Nordyke in a press release.
Community and music
Over 100 Indiana-based artists will display and sell their work for the art fair, which will be located on Virginia Avenue, Woodlawn Avenue, Shelby Street and the Fountain Square Plaza.
The festival has a few changes this year, including a kids area. Live music will begin at 11 a.m., and local food vendors will be in the parking lot behind WildFyre Tap, 1106 Prospect St.
Additionally, local creators will provide demonstrations in an area deemed the Creator Space, which will also be held in the parking lot behind WyldFire Tap and other businesses.
Masterpiece in a Day
Anyone can enter the Masterpiece in a Day art competition for a chance to win cash prizes. Contestants should bring their favorite art supplies, and day-of registration will be held at Square Cat Vinyl, 1054 Virginia Ave.
Entries will be shown at Square Cat Vinyl. Then, 10 finalists will have their work displayed on Friday, Oct. 3, at the Murphy Arts Center, 1043 Virginia Ave.
“Since I’ve lived in Indy, Fountain Square has been one of Indy’s best hubs for art and music,” Nordyke said.
Art Squared will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, throughout Fountain Square.
