Indy Parks and Recreation is celebrating the latest upgrade to Frederick Douglass Park, 1616 E. 25th St., with a little help from the Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers Foundation paid to paint the basketball courts and add new hoops and benches. A ribbon cutting and celebration is planned for 2:30-5 p.m Oct.16.

The celebration will include appearances from the full Indiana Pacers roster, Pacemates and team mascot Boomer. There will also be live music, games and giveaways.

In June, Frederick Douglass Park also opened a $23-million renovated family center and upgraded playground.
