The Philippine Cultural Community Center has launched a new food pantry for people experiencing food insecurity.
Beyond This Hunger is a program that provides free food and wraparound services to residents. The program is in partnership with Faith, Hope and Love Community and University Heights Christian Community.
Phillip Smith, a founder of the Philippine Cultural Community Center, said the program allows community members to receive help with resumes for workforce development and meet with a pastor to support emotional and spiritual needs.
“We want to not just give food away and say, ‘Bye,’ and hope for the best for them,” Smith said. “We want to build that relationship with them if they need something.”
The food pantry doesn’t have eligibility requirements. Community members must fill out an intake form and attend a weekly class in order to receive food.
Meetings will be held 2:30 p.m. at the Philippine Cultural Community Center, 4141 S. East St., on the following dates:
- Tuesday, Dec. 30
- Thursday, Jan. 8
- Thursday, Jan. 15
- Thursday, Jan. 22
Residents can contact the Philippine Cultural Community Center at 317-721-6217 or info@phcenter.org for more information.
