Freeman was elected to the legislature in 2016, where he represents southeastern Indianapolis and part of Johnson County. He also serves as chair of the Corrections and Criminal Law committee. He was on the Indianapolis City-County Council for six years.
Freeman got much public attention earlier this year when he introduced legislation that would have effectively killed IndyGo’s Blue Line by banning dedicated lanes for the bus route. That legislation later died.
Legislative priorities include:
- Implementing property tax caps.
- Addressing Medicaid shortfall.
- Increasing law enforcement and public safety funding.
- Improving literacy in Indiana schools.
