Jennifer McCormick

McCormick ran for Indiana superintendent of public instruction as a Republican, and served in that position from 2017 to 2021. (The position has since been renamed the Indiana secretary of education and is now appointed by the governor). McCormick changed her party affiliation in June 2021. She started her career as a special education and language arts teacher in Yorktown, Indiana, before becoming the district’s principal and then superintendent. McCormick’s running mate is Terry Goodin.

Legislative priorities:

  • Protecting reproductive rights by vetoing more restrictive bills and pushing for an amendment allowing abortion in the state’s constitution.
  • Advocating for public education by making finances more transparent, expanding access to Pre-K and improving literacy. She has historically supported the expansion of private school vouchers.
  • Increasing deductions for property taxes for homeowners and renters, and capping increases in property tax bills at 10%.
