Haitian Creole speakers can participate in a free resume building program to help them access career opportunities and learn computer skills.
This is the first time the Indianapolis Public Library’s partnership with the Community Alliance of the Far Eastside has offered the program to east side residents who do not speak English.
So far, 11 people have completed the workshop, and the library plans to reach 18 participants by November.
Participants use templates, laptops and flash drives provided by the library to create and edit resumes. The learning materials are tailored to different literacy levels, and interpreters are available to help them follow along.
Library staff said the program is encouraging participants to seek more resources, including children’s books.
Originally planned in three languages, all sessions were held in Haitian Creole due to high demand.
The program is part of the Indianapolis Library’s goal to expand access and technical knowledge.
The CAFE partnership is one of the library’s 364 active partnerships in 2025.
Immigrant Outreach Program Specialist Sakura Fuqua said the program represents a shared learning opportunity.
“This partnership has been meaningful because we are able to complement each other and support each other in our stronger areas.”
CAFE brings cultural and language expertise, while the library offers technology and training.
For now, the program is at capacity, but CAFE hopes to expand the program next year.
Next meeting
