The Center for Leadership Development will explain what new high school graduation requirements mean for students at a free workshop from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4.

All Indiana students will soon be required to follow a new set of graduation rules after state officials approved new high school diplomas that place a greater emphasis on college and career exposure at earlier ages.

Rather than being credited solely for their performance at school, students will be encouraged to pursue internships and job training before their high school graduation.

The new requirements take effect beginning with the class of 2029, meaning this year’s ninth graders will be the first to fully experience the change. (Some schools in Indiana have opted to offer the new high school diplomas early.)

The structure of the new diplomas is very different from the Core 40 diploma families have come to recognize. The workshop will walk students and their parents through the changes.

The event takes place at the Center for Leadership Development, 2425 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. Families are asked to register in advance online at the Center for Leadership Development’s website.
