Indiana University is offering a free virtual class on how to respond to and reverse an overdose.

The online training, offered by Prevention Insights at IU Bloomington, will include how to identify signs and symptoms of overdoses and how to administer naloxone, or Narcan, a nasal spray medicine used to reverse overdoses.

You’ll also learn about safety procedures, the effects of opiates on the body and how opioid overdoses are affecting Indiana communities.

The class is free and open to the public to take anytime. To take the class, visit IU’s website here.

From start to finish, the class will take about 30 minutes to complete. After you finish the course, IU will email you a certificate of completion.

Narcan near you

After completing the class, you may want to get naloxone to carry with you in case you meet someone who needs it.

Overdose Lifeline has a map of where you can get naloxone in your ZIP code.

You can also sign up to have Narcan shipped to you for free through ShipHappens, an Indiana organization that offers free overdose prevention training and supplies.
