Does your neighborhood need more housing? What about parks and places to shop?

Here’s your chance to tell the city’s Department of Metropolitan Development about your vision for future city planning.

The department’s long-range planning team will host a series of public meetings in June across Marion County. Residents can learn more about what development is already in their communities and share what they would like to see.

The information will be used to update the Marion County land use plan. In short, a land use plan informs zoning decisions, which determines what types of businesses can open and where housing can be built.

“Land use is the vision,” Logan Lane, DMD’s administrator of long-term planning, said at a recent Metropolitan Development Commission meeting. “Zoning is the law that allows us to do that.”

Lane said a new plan will be adopted in the spring of 2026. There will be more opportunities closer to then for residents to give feedback.
