Registration is open for the Haitian Community Summit May 1-3 at Indy’s Global Village, 4233 Lafayette Road.

The event brings together Haitian leaders, scholars, civil society advocates and community members from across the U.S. to address challenges faced by Haitian Americans.

The summit will unveil a report from the New York City-based Haitian Times, which is hosting the event, entitled “Echoes of Strength: Mapping the Haitian American Experience.” The report examines demographic shifts, social needs and institutional gaps shaping Haitian communities across the country.

Indianapolis has experienced a boom in the Haitian population. The Haitian Association of Indiana estimates between 20,000 and 30,000 Haitians now live here with many residing on the east side because of the low cost of living and access to schools and jobs.

“We are witnessing a redefinition of what it means to be Haitian in America, and it’s happening in places like Indianapolis,” said Garry Pierre-Pierre, founder of The Haitian Times. “By holding the summit here, we’re recognizing the new geography of our diaspora and planting a flag for collective progress rooted in these new realities.”

If you go
