Construction is set to begin in early 2026 on two bus docking bays at the downtown transit center.

It’s part of IndyGo’s preparation for the completion of the Blue Line, a 24-mile bus east-west rapid transit route that will connect the Indianapolis International Airport to the town of Cumberland.

The roughly $2 million project, which received final approval in October, will include a 14-inch platform long enough to add two new bus bays, one of which will be used for the Blue Line when it opens in 2028. The other bay is planned to be used as a contingency bay for the Red Line and Purple Line.

The bays will be covered by awnings and offer passenger amenities such as those found at other IndyGo bus rapid transit stations.

They will also replace 19 public parking spaces on East Washington Street between Delaware Street and Alabama Street.

The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
