IPS is offering support to families who typically receive federal food assistance.

Benefits offered through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program were not awarded on time this month as the government shutdown continues.

That means EBT cards supported by SNAP weren’t refilled as would be expected on Nov. 1. Two federal judges recently ordered the Trump administration to use emergency funding to pay out SNAP benefits, but it remains unclear how soon those benefits reach families.

In the meantime, IPS is offering support through several school-based pantries. Families with students registered in these schools can receive assistance.

If you’re not an IPS family, you can find other resources open to the community here.

IPS pantries include:

Families of students attending Carl Wilde School 79 can text @79freefood to 81010 for assistance.

IPS officials have shared this information and more on a district website. They expect to share new locations in the future, so be sure to check back with the website for updates.
