Beginning this fall, a new program will allow Indiana University Indianapolis students to work at Eli Lilly and Company for college credit while getting paid, the university announced Thursday, Feb. 1.
The program will initially be open to students in the Kelley School of Business, the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering and the School of Health & Human Sciences. Students accepted into the program will have a variety of full-time or close to full-time opportunities in departments across Lilly, from finance to human resources to information technology.
IU’s goal is to help students stay employed in Indiana post-graduation, which the state’s Commission for Higher Education has also identified as an aim.
IU Indianapolis’ partnership with Lilly builds on a cooperative education program the Kelley School announced in October. Students will alternate between semesters of classes and full-time paid work with local companies while earning a four-year degree.
In addition, students participating in the program will be connected with resources and support from the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP) and 16 Tech Innovation District. The organizations will provide opportunities for team building, volunteering and experiential learning, IU Indianapolis said.
The program announcement comes as IU Indianapolis prepares to split from Purdue University in Indianapolis on July 1. IU Indianapolis said it has made significant investments in STEM as it prepares to move away from Purdue, with more than $250 million in biosciences and $111 million in microelectronics.
Information about how to apply for the cooperative program will be released later, and enrollment will begin later this year.
