Latha Ramchand, currently executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of Missouri, will serve as the inaugural chancellor and executive vice president of Indiana University Indianapolis, the university announced in a news release.
IU and Purdue will split from their IUPUI partnership and begin operating separately in Indianapolis on July 1, 2024.
IU Indianapolis is poised to grow significantly in its next era. The university plans to create a new science and technology corridor and invest $250 million in biosciences and create two new Indianapolis research institutes.
IU also has pledged to double enrollment in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering, invest in its nursing and medical programs and create a co-op program with the Kelley School of Business where students alternate between internships and classes.
“From the focus on student success to the impactful research led by IU faculty in Indianapolis, it is clear to me that this campus is poised to become one of the most vibrant urban public research universities in the country,” Ramchand said in the news release. “The opportunity to serve as the inaugural chancellor for an institution such as IU Indianapolis at this point in its history is truly special.”
Prior to her tenure at University of Missouri, Ramchand worked as dean of the business school at the University of Houston. She holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mumbai and a doctorate from Northwestern University.
In addition to her leadership role, Ramchand will be a finance professor in the Kelley School of Business. Her start date at IU Indianapolis is Feb. 12.
