The Marion County Public Health Department now offers Saturday walk-in hours at its vital records office.

The office, 3838 N. Rural St., issues birth certificates and death certificates. It will also close one hour earlier on Wednesdays.

Expanding the hours supports the health department’s efforts to increase access for residents, said Dr. Virginia Caine, director and chief medical officer of the public health department.

“This step allows us to better meet the needs of the community, which is a critical part of our mission in public health,” Caine said in a new release.

The new office hours are:

  • Monday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday, 8 a.m to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon
