Hi, my name is Coye Lloyd. I am a moonlighting barista at Commissary and full-time PhD student at IU Indianapolis. I’m in the American Studies program with an emphasis on film. I’m more of a theory and criticism gal than a making-movies gal, though I’ve participated in panels at Kan-Kan Cinema for topics from Black horror to women in film.
Kan-Kan is going to have me back next month for their spooky season celebration, Kan-Kan Says Boo (this title makes me giggle). I’m screening “Child’s Play” on Oct. 27. Come see it! It’ll be a silly, good time.
Day One: Sunday
Birthday brunch with my friends at Borage! Had the polenta cake with some of the best pimento cheese I have ever had. Don’t sleep on that canelé and coffee game. Good food, good service and really good company.

Day Two: Monday

Started the day with ye’ ol’ faithful Monon Coffee Co. Iced soy latte is a classic that will never go outta style.
Later (because I needed even more caffeine), I ran by Yujo for THE BEST BOBA in the city. Yeah, I said it. When I’m hungry, I like to get their delicious and filling tofu noodle bowl. I haven’t had the ramen, but it has been recommended by everyone I know.
Although I really want to check out Kan-Kan’s Ozu series this evening (Daniel Arthur Jacobson, artistic director, is gonna be there for a chat), darn school is taking over my time. But this is the first of an ongoing Ozu series at Kan-Kan over the next few months. I plan to attend a future screening.
Day Three: Tuesday
I didn’t really do anything, other than go to my first class of the semester. It’s a research methods class that has already helped give more shape to my interests and motivations for school. Very excited for what the semester has in store. For dinner, we ordered Jet’s Pizza delivery (dangerous!) — some of the best chain pizza money can buy.
Day Four: Wednesday

Wednesday was a very busy day, working as a graduate assistant at the Ray Bradbury Center Museum, starting an “abject art class,” and cat-sitting.
I live pretty close to Hubbard & Cravens, so I walked over to get a coffee and muffin to fuel the day.
I cooked dinner, but I did have to pick up beer and wine to accompany it. My go-to is SoBro Spirits. Wine. Craft. Beer.
They have such a gorgeous selection, cash/credit prices, the right stuff in the fridges, friendly faces, legitimately great recommendations … I’m a fan.
Day Five: Thursday
Went to Landmark Glendale 12 theater with one of my besties. Brendan and I really enjoyed ourselves at “Alien: Romulus.” It’s fun and gross and you should see it! Man, I love Glendale’s movie theater; it’s full of memories.
Afterward we went to Gather 22 for their half-off wine bottle. They have such insanely good taste — the cocktails are always yummy and interesting, their wine list is studied and delicious, and they have great service and food.
Day Six: Friday
My boyfriend, Jon, and I went to one of our favorite under-the-radar spots. I’m not saying what or where it is lol — sorry! It’s a very dependable and satisfying place. Our visit today confirmed that we’re becoming regulars. We had our first, kinda, like, check-in with our usual server. It was so cool!
Day Seven: Saturday
Darn rain almost ruined my day! Jon and I are training for the Hilly Hundred, so we’ve been riding our butts off, building endurance and strength to tackle those hills!
We got out a little later than planned, which made me angry for one reason: We almost missed Pure-Trition, the best smoothie in the city! I look forward to my bike ride, but I REALLY look forward to my tasty reward. LOVE THEM!
Jon is a big fan of the Japanese restaurant Sakura. It was one of the first places he learned that vegan food could be, like, great! He’s a vegetarian now; we both are. It’s so good. The service is also really good, and it’s also an ol’ faithful for us.
