Have you received a suspicious emails that appear to be from a government office asking to pay a toll to avoid late fees?
Do not respond and delete them immediately – they are part of a phishing scam.
The emails first appeared early Tuesday morning, each with the subject line “TxTag Account Suspension Warning.”
WISH-TV received at least 15 different versions of this email, each from different offices including the Indiana Office of Technology, Department of Insurance, and Family and Social Services Administration.
The technology office says it is aware of the spam email messages and says to delete the messages as you receive them.
The Indiana Office of Technology (IOT) is aware of fraudulent messages purportedly sent by state agencies about collecting tolls. These messages are scams, and users should not click on any of the links.
The State does not send unpaid toll notifications via text or email messages.
IOT is working with the company that was used to deliver those messages to stop any further communications.
The State of Indiana contract with this company ended on 12/31/24, but they did not remove the State’s account. A contractor’s account was hacked and used to send those messages.
IOT is not aware of any current state systems being compromised.
