Nearly two years after Purdue University in Indianapolis launched, the university is continuing to expand its degree programs.
Starting this fall, Purdue will offer a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management in Indianapolis.
“Indy’s gonna look really different in five years,” said Amanda Cecil, an associate hospitality professor at Purdue who’s leading the launch of the Indy programs. “Purdue wants to be a part of that next iteration of Indianapolis.”
Indy students will complete two internships at local companies as part of their studies. Many of those will likely be with Purdue partner White Lodging, which owns and manages the JW Marriott.
Purdue will also offer an undergraduate minor in event management starting this fall. Down the line, Purdue may explore adding more programs in the school of hospitality and tourism management, Cecil said.
“We would really love for our students to consider staying in the state of Indiana,” Cecil said. “I hope to showcase Indianapolis as just an amazing place to live, work, study and stay long term.”
More programs coming to Indy
Students interested in sports will also have more opportunities in Indy this fall.
After launching in West Lafayette last year, students will now be able to enroll in a master’s degree in sport management in Indy this fall, according to Purdue spokesperson Derek Schultz.
Purdue is also bringing its master’s degree in athletic training to its Indianapolis campus. The two-year program trains students to diagnose and treat injuries for athletes and will launch this fall with between 25 and 30 students, according to a Feb. 20 news release. You can apply online now.
There are several other new bachelor’s and master’s degrees coming to Indianapolis this fall. Some bachelor’s degree programs, such as construction management technology and multidisciplinary technology, will enroll their first class of first-year students this fall. This year, those programs were only available for transferring or current students.
Other new programs coming to Indy this fall include a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and master’s degrees in business and civil engineering. You can view a full list of degrees Purdue is adding in Indianapolis here.
