“When you make music, where does your mind take you?”
I sat down with Ray Hutchins of The Palace and talked about what it’s like to lead a band while also distinguishing an individual sound.
“My sound is my whole body,” Hutchins said. “It comes from a blend of church, classical music and my aunties and my mama sitting together just singing randomly at 2 o’clock in the morning.”
He talked about how The Palace came together, how he perfects his craft and brings us along on his artist journey.
REVERB features interviews with Black artists in Indiana and across the Midwest and blends original performances with reinterpretations of Black legends.
The series, which kicked off Dec. 19, 2025, is presented by I Made Rock N Roll, a GANGGANG initiative that celebrates the role of Black artists in shaping rock ‘n’ roll history.
