A new online mapping tool offers a glimpse of some of the city’s most dangerous roads.

The platform, developed by Indy nonprofit Health by Design, is collecting data on safety concerns as part of the city’s Vision Zero plan, a policy initiative that involves redesigning infrastructure with the goal of reducing or eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries.

Residents can report everything from dangerous driver behavior and near-miss incidents to crumbling sidewalks and dangerous intersections. The tool allows users to drop points on a map and document safety concerns they have experienced or observed.

If a user’s complaint overlaps with an existing report, they can click the “thumbs up” icon next to the report to elevate it.

Residents have until April 30 to submit data.

The City-County Council adopted a Vision Zero policy in 2024 after years of pressure from pedestrian safety activists to make Indy’s streets safer.

There were 41 fatal traffic-related deaths and 832 injuries in 2024, according to Indy Pedestrian Safety Crisis, which has been collecting data on traffic-related incidents since 2022.

You can view the online mapping tool here.

Residents can also report issues in person at upcoming Vision Zero outreach events:

  • Be the Change Summit, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 5 at Riverside Park Family Center, 2420 E. Riverside Drive
  • Indy Vision Zero Engagement, 4-6 p.m. April 9 at Indianapolis Public Library’s Lawrence branch, 7898 Hague Road
