Need a place for your kid to hang out before or after school?

Even though this school year is just winding down, it’s never too early to start thinking about next year. Registration is open for The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis’ 2025-26 Before and After School program.

The YMCA works with 10 districts and several charter schools in Central Indiana to provide care for students. Most programs are run directly within students’ schools.

But, the program is popular and many sites have enrollment capacities, so it’s best to secure your spot early to avoid waitlists.

Indianapolis districts including Beech Grove, Franklin Township, IPS, Perry Township, Warren Township and Wayne Township participate to varying degrees.

You can check to see if your student’s school participates by visiting the YMCA Before and After School website.

Weekly costs vary by location, and a one-time $30 fee will be charged for each child upon registration. However, financial assistance is available.

Each program comes with a planned curriculum designed to keep students engaged and active. While in The YMCA’s staff’s care, kids will have opportunities to be physically active — on school playgrounds or athletic fields — to work on homework and to engage in art projects.

Kids will also be provided an afternoon snack, or dinner in some locations. Other programs include leadership development activities, weekly global learning and inclusion time and service learning experiences.

To learn more about the program and sign up your student, visit The YMCA’s Before and After School program website.
