Want to join our team?
Our team is growing, and we are looking for passionate Hoosiers who want to help provide community-based journalism to Indianapolis.
Mirror Indy is a part of Free Press Indiana, a nonprofit news organization dedicated to ensuring all Hoosiers have access to the news and information they need.
Free, free press. Local, community news should be free. Free to consume, and free from influence. At Free Press Indiana, we ensure Hoosiers have access to the stories they need, as well as the ones they don’t yet realize they do.
We empower journalists across the state to dig deep and surface stories that make residents think, and rethink. In doing so, we help them shape the future of their own neighborhoods and strengthen our state’s communities by safeguarding their very foundation: freedom.
The Free Press Indiana board includes Chair Karen Ferguson Fuson, former publisher of the Indianapolis Star; Carolene Mays, former state representative and president of the Indianapolis Recorder; Mark Miles, CEO of the Penske Entertainment Corp; Michael Ouimette, CIO of the American Journalism Project; Melissa Proffitt, partner-in-charge of client relations at Ice Miller LLP; Myrta Pulliam, a journalist and community leader; and Nichole Wilson, vice president of community health operations at Indiana University Health.
We aim to continue a legacy of fearless reporting, underground perspectives, and inclusive storytelling.
When you support Mirror Indy today, you’re investing in reporting that breaks down the issues and how they impact your neighborhood. Join your neighbors in supporting this worthy cause.
Our Growing Coalition.
Over two dozen philanthropies and news organizations have come together to strengthen local news in Indiana. Our media partners are below. Find out more about our funders and partners.
Our Editorial Independence Policy.
We subscribe to standards of editorial independence adopted by the Institute for Nonprofit News. Our organization retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic and business interests of our organization. We maintain a firewall between news coverage decisions and sources of all revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgments are made independently and not on the basis of donor support.
Our organization may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but our organization maintains editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.
Our organization will make public all donors who give a total of $5,000 or more per year. We will accept anonymous donations for general support only if it is clear that sufficient safeguards have been put into place that the expenditure of that donation is made independently by our organization and in compliance with INN’s Membership Standards.
