The Wheeler Dowe Boys & Girls Club is getting a boost in its support for students’ reading and math skills.

The club on 30th Street accepted a $25,000 check this week to help build programs that help kids read at grade level and prepare students to complete Algebra studies.

The funding came as a part of the Messer Construction Co.’s annual grant awards which seek to support capital improvement, education and workforce development initiatives.

The Wheeler Dowe club plans to use this grant to transform its gym into an immersive learning environment with technology and playful elements that engage students both physically and academically.

Boys & Girls Clubs representatives say the award helps them advance a goal to see all club members graduate high school.
