About the drop
News, the Mirror Indy Way
Inspiration comes from everything Israel Solomon sees around him – a pair of sneakers, a song on the radio or a nostalgic memory, and pulls it into the art that he’s creating.
Storytelling, he says, is about being unflinchingly authentic and personal in a way that people will connect with.
Like Israel, a renowned visual artist whose work has been featured at BUTTER Fine Art Fair and many other venues throughout the city and abroad, our reporting draws inspiration from many places and our goal is to reflect that curiosity back to readers like you.
Mirror Indy’s very first merch drop – News, the Mirror Indy Way – features a rich, colorful scene depicting neighbors enjoying one another on a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
No, you won’t see the obvious tells of a traditional media outlet – newsprint, phones or a computer, as our goal is to be embedded into the tapestry of everyday life. People talking to each other about what they’ve learned from our writing, going out to visit places they found out about from our newsletter or social, gathering at events we’ve showcased … people living life.
As for the headless figures, “It’s left open to interpretation so people could imagine themselves in that space, and make up their own stories,” Solomon said.
We hope that you will enjoy these items and be inspired to create some stories of your own.
