Martin University will host a bipartisan “Empower the Vote” event to engage and educate voters Sept. 29 at its eastside campus.
The event aims to get neighbors engaged before the November election. The deadline to register to vote in Indiana is Oct. 7, and early voting begins Oct. 8. Election Day is Nov. 5.
Attendees will be encouraged to register to vote at the event. People can also sign up to volunteer by transporting voters to the polls or calling and texting voters to make sure they are ready for Election Day.

The event will also feature a meet-and-greet with several local candidates. These include:
- Karen Mitchell, Democrat running for the Center Township advisory board
- Kenya Perkins, Democrat running for Pike Township board
- State Rep. Vanessa Summers, D-Indianapolis, running for House District 99
- Sen. Fady Qaddoura, D-Indianapolis, running for Senate District 30
- Andy Horning, a libertarian running for U.S. Senate
- State Rep. Robin Shackleford, D-Indianapolis, running for House District 98
- State Rep. Cherrish Pryor, D-Indianapolis, running for House District 94

Martin’s voter engagement event will be 3-7 p.m. Sept. 29 at the school’s eastside campus, 2186 N. Sherman Drive.
If you plan on registering to vote on site, bring your driver’s license or ID card.
