This fall, Indy residents can go on free wellness walks hosted by Eskenazi Health in neighborhoods across the city.
“You don’t need a fancy facility or brand new space,” said Jeff Noyed, a lifestyle health and wellness manager for the public hospital system. “It’s just about finding ways to be active.”
Walking can help manage or prevent conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer and Type 2 diabetes. Plus, it’s an easy way to socialize and release stress.
The events are hosted at different Eskeanzi primary care sites, Noyed said, where participants are often joined by doctors and health coaches who can answer questions outside of the office.
Anyone can join; you do not have to be an Eskenazi patient.
Here’s the latest schedule:
- Eskenazi Health Center Grande, 6002 E. 38th St., hosts a wellness walk at noon Mondays.
- Eskenazi Health Center Pecar, 6940 Michigan Road, hosts a wellness week at 4 p.m. Tuesdays.
- Eskenazi Health Center West 38th Street, 5515 W. 38th St., hosts wellness walks on the first and third Fridays of the month. The next walk is scheduled for Nov. 1.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends getting about 150 minutes, or two and a half hours, of moderate cardio per week. Participants can complete the whole route, Noyed said, or stop early if needed.
