There are two ways you can help the nearly 50 homeless veterans who were displaced by a fire at the Helping Veterans and Families of Indiana’s Manchester Apartments.

You can contribute to a fire assistance fund. You can also buy items on the organization’s Amazon wishlist, which includes items such as clothes and hygiene products.

The organization doesn’t have volunteer opportunities right now, a spokesperson told Mirror Indy.

The fire broke out at the downtown apartments late Saturday and left 48 veterans displaced.

“The loss experienced by 48 veterans displaced Saturday night is unimaginable,” HVAF CEO Emmy Hildebrand said in a statement. “We need community support to make sure they remain housed safely.”

The apartment building serves as transitional housing for homeless veterans and has 51 units. Three of the units were vacant at the time of the fire.

The residents are staying in hotel rooms now, a spokesperson said.

Indianapolis Fire Department said in a news release that three residents were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
