Help break the stigma over men’s mental health care by signing up for the free BRAVEE Inc. online support circle.
The support circle will be held over Zoom from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays and will help provide a safe and supportive space where men can share their stories, challenges and victories in a non-judgmental environment.
BRAVEE CEO Jeffery Jackson said the support circle will help men build connections and gain new perspectives and coping strategies.
“It’s something that we are missing,” he told Mirror Indy. “I want men to be able to get to know each other and know that there’s other people that struggle with the same thing that they are struggling with.”
BRAVEE is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit dedicated to providing mental health care to men, who, researchers say, are far less likely than women to seek help due to a reluctance to talk about their problems because of the stigma attached to seeking treatment.
Peer support worked better at reducing depressive symptoms than individual care, University of Michigan researchers found, because it decreases the feeling of isolation and the impact of stressors. It also increases the sharing of health information and provides positive role modeling.
