Teens can learn how to maneuver the road and meet an IndyCar driver this back-to-school season.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute is having a free Rule the Road event Aug. 2 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Teens ages 15 to 18 can participate in interactive simulations that will teach them about seat belt safety, distracted and impaired driving, and blind spot recognition. They’ll also have the opportunity to learn about when to brake, how to maneuver in traffic and how to keep up with vehicle maintenance.
IndyCar drivers Christian Lundgaard, Tony Kanaan, Josef Newgarden, Sting Ray Robb, Ed Carpenter and Conor Daly will be on-site throughout the day to sign autographs.
Teens must have a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit and personal vehicle to participate. They must also sign a liability waiver.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 4790 W. 16th St. Teens and their parents can go to the Rule the Road event website to fill out a waiver.
Rule the Road will also have a car seat clinic for parents with children. Visit the Rule the Road website to RSVP for a child seat inspection.
