A local nonprofit is seeking help eliminating barriers for the families of infants.
The Villages of Indiana, a family and child services nonprofit, is gearing up for its annual Diaper Day on March 12. The statewide day of advocacy seeks to raise awareness for the rising costs of diapers and provide products to families served by The Villages.
An infant may require as many as a dozen diaper changes a day costing families as much as $80 to $100 a month, according to The National Diaper Bank.Yet, diapers are not covered by federal assistance programs, such as WIC and SNAP.
Community groups are encouraged to plan diaper drives, and individuals are invited to donate diaper products in advance of the March 12 day of action. The Villages provides a toolkit for groups looking to organize their own diaper drive.
Individuals can make donations by visiting The Villages’ Amazon Wish List. Diapers can also be purchased in stores and mailed or dropped off at The Villages’ Indianapolis office, 3833 N. Meridian St.
If planning to drop diapers off, call 317-775-6500 to schedule a delivery time. A list of other participating Indiana locations can be found on The Villages’ website.
The nonprofit seeks to raise 35,000 diapers through its spring event. The Villages’ drive will specifically benefit families who already participate in the nonprofit’s programming.
Families not affiliated with The Villages can find help securing diapers by visiting the Indiana Diaper Bank’s website.
