IU Indianapolis’ Arabic Studies program will hold an Arab American community fair April 12 on the west side.
IU’s event, in collaboration with the community and the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee’s Indiana chapter, aims to highlight the vibrant and unique cultures of Middle Eastern and North African countries.

The fair will feature the music of Bloomington-based band Saalam and a reading from local Iraqi American poet Sajjad Jawad. Detroit-area dance group Alfawares Zaffe will also perform dabka, a type of folk dancing, and host a workshop for people to learn steps afterward.
There will also be an exhibit displaying the work of local artists and over a dozen community organization tables for attendees to learn about resources in Indianapolis.
Free lunch will be provided by the International Marketplace Coalition.
