My journalism career started in a high school classroom in a small town in South Carolina, capturing the spirit of football games and the glitz of prom in our school newspaper. I have had the itch for storytelling ever since. Before Mirror Indy, I was the metro editor at The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C. and led a team of local government reporters, and spent years before that writing mainly about criminal justice, public safety and economic policy during stints at The Greenville News, the Southern Poverty Law Center and FiveThirtyEight.
I joined Mirror Indy as a news editor because I’m passionate about letting communities have agency in how their stories are told, and wanted to be part of an innovative newsroom that is actively seeking out new ways to get information to people to help them make informed decisions about their community. I’m excited to learn everything about Indianapolis and offer a fresh set of ears to hear what local residents care about most, and any and all recommendations to find a good bite to eat.
When I’m not working, you may catch me singing karaoke at a local bar or hanging out in a park. I also love to read, stumble upon new music and hang out with my two cat sons.
