Award-winning poet and cultural critic Hanif Abdurraqib will read from his new book of poetry and essays, “There’s Always This Year” at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the AMP at 16 Tech.

The Ohio-born writer, who also served as Butler University’s Booth Tarkington Writer-in-Residence, is hosted by Loudmouth Books, owned by local author Leah Johnson

While the event is free to attend, there’s an option to pay $28 to get a copy of “There’s Always This Year,” which was inspired by Abdurraqib’s lifelong love of basketball.

The collection explores the meaning of success, role models and the tension that can exist between success and expectations. The upcoming poetry collection is his sixth book
