Residents can attend a town hall to discuss a proposed data center on the south side.
The developer, Sabey Data Centers, wants to build two data center buildings on land north of Camby Road and southeast of Kentucky Avenue, which is already zoned for industrial use for the Decatur Technology Park.
City-County Councilor Josh Bain, who represents the area, said in a post on social media about the meeting that he wants to “make sure that our community’s voice is heard before any decisions are made.”
The proposal suggests constructing two data centers: a roughly 572,500-square-foot, one-story building and a roughly 490,000-square-foot, two-story building.
For context, the largest building would be nearly double the size of the IKEA in Fishers.
Sabey has not yet filed a city rezoning petition — the first step in making the proposal a reality. But the company has received a letter of commitment from AES Indiana, which would power the facilities.
In a letter to Sabey, Citizens Energy Group, which would supply water to cool the technology, wrote that it can’t write a letter of commitment until Citizens reviews proposed utility demands for the project.
Both utility providers would have to install upgrades to support the proposed development.
The Decatur data center proposal comes after Google petitioned to rezone and build a data hub in Franklin Township. The petition was withdrawn after residents and city-county councilors fought against the proposal.
