If you want to get involved in your neighborhood, talking to the leaders who came before you is a great place to start. The Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center, or INRC, is preparing to launch a program called Legacy Allies to create connections like that across generations.

Legacy Allies, which used to be called the Intergenerational Neighborhood Leadership Program, is a two-year program that pairs experienced leaders with newer ones, so they can work together toward neighborhood projects residents want to see. It teaches new leaders how to plan and execute projects. The program is funded by the Indianapolis African American Quality of Life Initiative.

Before INRC opens the program application for neighbors in Norwood, Martindale Brightwood and Northwest Landing, the organization wants to hear from stakeholders. At a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 4, INRC will bring together neighbors, potential partner organizations and Mayor’s Neighborhood Advocates to talk about next steps.

Then, neighbors in Norwood, Martindale Brightwood and Northwest Landing can learn about the program through public information sessions at later dates.

A correction was made on Feb. 2, 2026: An earlier version of this article did not list the correct information for a Feb. 4 Legacy Allies meeting. That meeting is for stakeholders only.
