Candidate Q&A
Why are you running?
I’ve lived here all my life. I’m running for another two-year term for the same reasons I ran the first time in 2020: the give my neighbors, and ordinary Hoosiers across the state, a voice in the State House.
If elected, what would be your top priorities for your constituents?
My top priorities at this moment, not necessarily in order, would be to: 1. Make things cost less. 2. Increase Hoosiers’ take home pay. 3. Build more quality, affordable housing. 4. Make childcare easy to find and easy to afford. 5. Root out corruption in state government. 6. Ensure improper use of License Plate Readers by law enforcement becomes a felony. 7. Get money out of politics. 8. Strengthen ethics laws and increase transparency and disclosure requirements for elected officials and powerful government bureaucrats. 9. Completely shift Indiana’s tax environment so it favors ordinary people, not the powerful or already-wealthy.
What areas of public policy are you passionate about?
As the only currently-service law enforcement officer in the Indiana General Assembly, I’m passionate about public safety and criminal law. Similarly, after being in office for six years, I’ve grown more and more passionate about seeking out and eliminating corruption by government officials. I’ll always be passionate about Labor issues, and things that impact working Hoosier families. Finally, since becoming a dad a few years ago, I’ve become increasingly invested in our kids and giving them every opportunity at success we can as a state.
In what areas do you see opportunities for bipartisanship in the 2027 legislative session?
I’ve already had good discussions with colleagues on the other side of the aisle about the need for serious regulation of Automated License Plate Readers and dramatically enhancing the amount and quality of training for Indiana law enforcement officers. I’m hoping we’ll have bipartisan and bicameral success at adopting some common-sense, universally approved firearm safety issues, too.
The Indiana Senate voted against redistricting during the 2026 legislative session. What is your position on redistricting?
I opposed it fiercely. In fact, I offered an amendment to that bill that essentially said “The Indiana General Assembly calls upon the U.S. Congress to outlaw partisan gerrymandering nationwide.” That amendment was defeated along party lines. I know both parties are guilty of it in places where each holds power, but I can say unequivocally that it is wrong and un-American no matter who does it.
