The Department of Metropolitan Development needs your help planning for a greenspace on the grounds of the former Central State Hospital.

The department will hold a public open house 5-7:30 p.m. April 22 at the public library’s Haughville branch, 2121 W. Michigan St.

Staff will collect input from residents about what they want to see, hear, touch and do in the greenspace located within the Central State Grove.

The grove is adjacent to four properties that DMD is seeking to redevelop:

  • The former Central State Hospital powerhouse at 3000 W. Washington St.
  • A former storehouse at 3302 Kirkbride Way
  • The former Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Mounted Patrol stables at 77 N. Tibbs Ave
  • A 2-acre lot across from the powerhouse that was home to a portion of the “Seven Steeples” building, the women’s ward of the hospital.

For more information, head to the Department of Metropolitan Development Facebook page.
