The Department of Metropolitan Development wants to hear what you think about proposed design features and amenities at Central State Grove, a greenspace on the grounds of the former Central State Hospital.
The department will have a public open house from noon to 4 p.m. July 19 at the Haughville Community Youth Mini Expo happening at Lentz Park, 700 N. Traub Ave.
Proposed designs include a nature playground, outdoor pavilions and a basketball court.

The grove is next to five properties that city is seeking to develop:
- The former Station 18 at 3000 W. Washington St.
- The former Central State Hospital powerhouse at 3161 Kirkbride Way.
- A former storehouse at 3302 Kirkbride Way.
- The former Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Mounted Patrol stables at 77 N. Tibbs Ave.
- A 2-acre lot across from the powerhouse that was home to a portion of the “Seven Steeples” building, the women’s ward of the hospital.
