The Julian Center has been helping victims of domestic violence for 50 years. On March 7, the center will open a second location of Thrifty Threads, a thrift store and donation center where items are free to its clients.

The new store is in Castleton, at 8424 Castleton Corner Drive, about 8 miles east of the original location on 86th Street.

Thrifty Threads is a place for survivors to replace items like clothing, household items and furniture. Survivors of domestic violence often escape abusive situations without a chance to take all their belongings, and 91% of the Julian Center’s clients are below the poverty line.

Each thrift store is also a place where the public can shop and a donation center. Thrifty Threads accepts clean and gently used clothing, linens, furniture, home decor, shoes, accessories, books, games, and small appliances. If you’re donating furniture, you can schedule a free pickup by calling 317-802-9612 two weeks in advance. You can see the full list of what you can and can’t donate online.

Thrifty Threads stores are open for shopping 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Donation hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
