The Speedway town government said Wednesday night that it’s addressing ongoing sewage issues at The Legend at Speedway apartment complex after raw sewage was discovered on the property.
The complex is at 2202 Fair Oaks Drive. That’s northwest of the intersection of Crawfordsville Road and North Lynhurst Drive.
Town crews first observed the suspected sewage while assisting with snow removal at the property, said a news release issued Wednesday night from the government. Following the discovery, a formal inspection confirmed that waste was being diverted into common areas.
A code enforcement inspection confirmed that sewage was being diverted into the parking lot of the complex. The matter involves conditions on private property, which places it under the legal authority of the Marion County Public Health Department. Speedway officials have provided documentation to county health officials and plan to coordinate with them throughout the enforcement process.
Town officials stated that their top priority is the health and safety of residents. The town intends to continue taking enforcement action to maintain pressure on the property owners until a permanent fix is delivered. Officials emphasized that all residents deserve safe and sanitary living conditions.
Residents of The Legend who have concerns regarding the situation are encouraged to contact the Marion County Public Health Department. The department can be reached by phone at 317-221-2000 or by email at HealthDept@MarionHealth.org. Updates will also be provided through the Town of Speedway’s official website and social media channels.
