Registration is open for two summer programs for kids organized by Central Indiana nonprofit La Plaza.

The Summer Discovery and Leadership Institute for Latino Youth programs run from June 16 to July 18.

Both five-week programs on Indy’s east side will provide breakfast and lunch as well as teach academic and leadership skills.

Summer Discovery

Summer Discovery is designed for students entering the first through sixth grades in the 2025-26 school year. Kids will explore the arts, participate in community service and get moving with fun, physical activities.

The day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Pleasant Run Elementary, 1800 N. Franklin Road. The program is $30 per week per student with some scholarships available to families with multiple children enrolled.

Leadership Institute for Latino Youth

The Leadership Institute for Latino Youth program, or LILY, is for older students entering grades nine through 11. This program is free to students and will help teens prepare for high school graduation and college and career paths. This camp runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pleasant Run Elementary.

Registration is open until June 11, though families are encouraged to apply early because space for both programs is limited. Registration forms for Summer Discovery and LILY are available online.

Summer help needed

La Plaza also is hiring teachers and interns for help with its programs this summer. The nonprofit is looking for the following positions:

  • English language arts teacher for LILY
  • College intern for LILY
  • Program coordinator for Summer Discovery
  • Assistant program coordinator for Summer Discovery
  • College interns to serve as camp counselors for Summer Discovery

Job descriptions, including pay ranges and application instructions, are available online for each position.
