Just 20 minutes from downtown Indy, Broad Ripple is an electric and trendy neighborhood that’s filled with art, eateries, and entertainment. Broad Ripple was our go-to spot during college (Go Dawgs!) and continues to be a favorite place to take visiting friends and family throughout the year.
Take a walk or bike ride along the Monon
The Monon is one of Indianapolis’ most popular trails that stretches 26 miles and cuts through many of the city’s must-see neighborhoods, including Broad Ripple. Grab your morning coffee from Perk Up or Java House, right on and next to the trail.
Enjoy the shops and art
Broad Ripple has TONS of boutiques and unique shops all within walking distance of each other. Just Pop In! is an award-winning gourmet popcorn company that has all the flavors and an Instagram-worthy cafe and porch. Grab the girlies and spend the afternoon trying out the popcorn and wine flights.
Add some color to your day by making a stop at the Indy Art Center. Just steps off the Monon, the center has a gorgeous sculpture garden and greenspace to explore. If you’re looking to let out your inner artist, check out the many classes and workshops they have to offer. The space also hosts one of our favorite art fairs in the city, Broad Ripple Art Fair. We’ve found some amazing pieces here and spent the day browsing and enjoying the live music. Pssst… the 2025 fair will be May 17 and 18, mark your calendars!
Grab a sweet treat
You can’t visit Broad Ripple without stopping by BRICS. Located in the historic Monon Railway Station, this locally-owned ice cream shop is a neighborhood favorite. Open year-round, you can enjoy the shops’ sundaes and shakes on their large deck overlooking the Monon or inside the renovated station by a cozy fire.
Try authentic Mexican and Brazilian cuisine
Fernando’s is a family-owned restaurant that’s been making waves since it opened. We’ve been there several times and cannot say enough great things about the food and atmosphere! Fun fact: It was named to Yelp’s list of Top 25 Hot and New Women-Owned Restaurants to Visit in 2024. Get a taste of Brazil by trying the country’s famous cocktail, Caipirinha, and the Chicken Stroganoff.
Let loose at The Vogue
A staple in Broad Ripple Village, this movie theater turned music venue always has a great lineup of local musicians and nationally touring artists. For a night of live entertainment, this is the top nightspot to go in the neighborhood.
Become a Bulldogs fan!
Another fun way to end your day in Broad Ripple is to take a trip to Hinkle Fieldhouse to watch some college basketball. As Butler alumnae, we can’t not mention this historic venue. The energy and fandom in the arena make for a one-of-a-kind experience perfect for families or date nights. And who doesn’t love to see Blue run across the court?
From history to funky charm, Broad Ripple is an Indy neighborhood everyone can enjoy in all seasons.
