Indianapolis Public Schools will have a series of workshops this year to help students and families fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA is a federal form required for many college scholarships. It’s especially used to help determine award amounts for federal grants, work-study programs and loans.

The form has gone through changes over the years so even if you’ve completed the application before, it doesn’t hurt to have a little help this year.

IPS will have a series of FAFSA Filling Nights in each of its high schools — the first of which is Thursday, Oct. 9. Indiana’s priority FAFSA filing deadline is April 15. Financial aid awards considered after this date are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

College specialists will be available during the IPS events to help families with their applications. Community partners, such as the Indiana Latino Institute, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and INvestEd, will also be in attendance. The Indianapolis Urban League will provide dinner.
