An eastside city-county councilor is stepping down from her position.
Ali Brown has resigned as the representative for District 10, which includes most of Lawrence, effective Sept. 10.
The Democrat is leaving her seat to accept a position as executive director of the Indiana Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.
She said the nonprofit organization’s mission “depends on public trust and a nonpartisan approach” and felt it was important “to remove any appearance of political conflict” before accepting the role.
“It was important to myself, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indiana, that I work in a nonpartisan space to advocate for kids,” Brown told Mirror Indy. “I’m excited to advocate on behalf of boys and girls across the state to make sure they’re getting what they need to be successful adults.”
A caucus will be held in the next 30 days to decide Brown’s replacement. It’s unclear who might succeed Brown, who was elected to the seat in 2019 and reelected in 2023.
Brown was council vice president in 2024 and 2025.
During her tenure, Brown chaired the Community Affairs Committee, where she helped oversee the development and construction of the Indianapolis Animal Care Services facility.
She also created and launched the Indy Autism Project, which seeks to make Indy a safer place for those on the spectrum.
