Why Hoosiers struggle to afford one of the lowest cost states in the nation.

With more than a decade of experience reporting in Indiana, I combine data analysis, on-the-ground voices, and policy insight to explain what’s at stake for families and communities. One of the most amazing parts of this work is when a parent trusts me enough to invite me into their home to talk with their kids.
My reporting with WFYI and Chalkbeat Indiana has prompted Indiana to return schools to local control, increased scrutiny of graduation rates, and exposed how the state violated federal law by allowing people with emergency permits to teach special education.
I grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from Smith College. When I’m not working, I spend my time eating, cooking and reading. I have two little kids, so I’m a regular at playgrounds, splash pads and libraries.
