From the Indianapolis Zoo’s orangutan center on Thursday afternoon, keepers proclaimed, “It’s a boy.”

Orangutan mom Sirih gave birth to the healthy baby. It becomes the 12th orangutan at the center that celebrated its 10th anniversary in October.

In a social media post, the zoo said, “Our (elated) animal care team says that both mom and baby are doing great. Sirih and baby will likely be out on public view shortly, so stay tuned for updates … and more pictures!”

The Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center is an indoor and outdoor facility designed to stimulate the apes’ physical, social and intellectual abilities, complete with gear to allow the animals to swing over the center. The facility is touted as one of the largest groups of orangutans in any U.S. zoo.
